ABOUT ME

I’m Joan Lin, with a background in visual art and lighting, and a strong appreciation for the details that shape how an image feels. Before moving into 3D, I spent several years teaching drawing and digital painting, guiding students through portfolio development and helping them shape ideas into clear, finished work.
My training at Vancouver Film School led me into lighting, where I became interested not only in how light builds mood and atmosphere, but also in the technical and structural side of how a shot comes together. Working within a VFX pipeline gave me a practical understanding of how different departments connect and rely on each other throughout production.
Coming from this background, I tend to approach work with both a visual sensitivity and a structured way of thinking—balancing creative intent with clarity, organization, and follow-through. Through my studio work and production experience, I’ve found that I really enjoy being part of the process behind the work: helping keep things organized, tracking progress, and making sure communication stays clear as projects move forward.
I’m especially interested in roles where I can contribute to both sides—supporting the team while helping maintain structure and momentum throughout the production process.
