ABOUT ME

I’m Joan Lin, a Lighting Artist who has always been drawn to the small details that make an image feel alive. Long before I touched 3D, I spent years teaching drawing and digital painting, helping students find their voice and guiding them through portfolio development. I discovered early on that I loved watching someone’s idea transform—slowly, through color, light, and patient iteration—into something expressive and complete. That experience shaped the way I work today: with care, curiosity, and a genuine respect for the creative process.
My artistic foundation began at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), where I studied 2D art and built the painter’s eye I still rely on. In 2025, I graduated from Vancouver Film School, where everything clicked: lighting felt like a natural extension of the way I saw the world. I learned to use light not just to illuminate a scene, but to guide emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling. I explored look development, collaborated closely with FX and comp, and gained a strong understanding of how different parts of the pipeline work together to create a final image.
I love creating lighting that feels cohesive and cinematic—where every frame has intention and emotion behind it. I enjoy working with teams, keeping workflows clear, and building an environment where communication feels easy and ideas can grow. Whether shaping a shot in lighting or supporting a creative project from planning to final delivery, I bring steady positive energy, artistic sensitivity, and a sincere passion for visual storytelling.
